PART 2 - Presented by TY TAYLOR
"Creative Writing for the Acoustic Guitar - How to Play"
1:00pm to 4:00pm
This is a hands on class with tips and techniques on creating parts for acoustic guitar.
Ty was born in Moss Point, Mississippi into a musical family. Having a father who was a well known local musician, and two brothers who are excellent musicians in their own right, Ty begin to learn from them all at a very early age. Ty began playing shows at age eight, and has been playing nonstop sense. It wasn’t long before folks began to take notice of Ty’s natural guitar ability, and he was soon being sought after as a studio musician on the local scene. To date, Ty has done several sessions of studio work in Nashville, and is a regular “go to” guy at the well known, Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana.
Besides being a super guitarist, Ty also plays several other instruments, to include 5 string banjo and pedal steel guitar. Ty’s talent as a song writer began to take shape over ten years ago, and his skills are evident in the fact that he co-wrote all the songs on his current album “Living The Wildlife”.
This is for the musician looking to expand both there playing and songwriting skills. We will cover some topics designed to infuse some new and fresh ideas into both, such as chord structure and function within a given key. PART 1 - Presented by MARC-ALAN BARNETTE
"Navigating Nashville and Beyond"
9:00am to noon
This workshop will touch on four distinct points of the music industry:
#1. CREATION OF THE SONG.
All things creative. Assessing subject matter, avoiding clichéd’ rhymes, overused subjects,
Taking a fresh approach, getting REALITY into songs, Building better melodies, avoiding “Second verse Hell!”, keeping it tight and effective, less is more, building dynamics into a song. Writing with artists, artists writing with experienced, established and hit writers.
#2. PRESENTATION OF THE SONG (LIVE AND RECORDED)
All aspects of live performance, playing with dynamics, choosing song types, reading audiences, Stage presence, making them PUT DOWN THE CEL PHONE, interacting with audiences, levels of recording, studio shopping, Nashville Vs. other places, video construction, THINGS TO AVOID.
Building your “HOME AUDIENCE.” Building bridges between Nashville and your home town. Must have a PRESENCE to win. To MOVE OR NOT TO MOVE. Having a Nashville presence WITHOUT living in Nashville. “back doors to publishers.” Finding and keeping co-writers. Online presence, AVOIDING MISSTEPS. INSTRUCTION FOR PARENTS OF ARTISTS.
Understanding today’s music market. BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, publishers, describing income streams. Reality shows, EXPECTATIONS VS. REALITY. DEPENDING ON YOURSELF, DEVELOPING YOUR OWN “BRAND.”
